Visa overview

What is the DTV Visa?

Training at Samart Payakaroon Gym Bangkok

The DTV is a long-stay visa designed for people pursuing activities in Thailand including Muay Thai training, Thai culinary courses, and medical treatment. Unlike tourist visas it does not require frequent renewals. You receive a single visa valid for 5 years with multiple entry privileges — meaning you can travel in and out of Thailand freely throughout that period without applying again.

Entry and stay rules

How it works

Muay Thai training session at Samart Payakaroon Gym

Each entry into Thailand on a DTV allows you to stay for up to 180 days. Within that period you can apply at the Thai Immigration Bureau for a further 180-day extension, giving you up to 360 continuous days in Thailand per entry cycle. After that maximum stay you depart, re-enter, and the 180-day counter resets. This process can repeat throughout the 5-year visa validity.

Important: DTV applications must be submitted at a Thai embassy or consulate outside of Thailand. You cannot apply for a DTV while already in the country.
